FRANKLIN -- After battling to a 1-1 tie through 100 minutes, 14th- seeded Franklin escaped with a 2-1 win by converting its final penalty kick in a Division 1 South opening-round game.
After a rough start by Needham in OT penalty Kicks, Panthers strikers Keva Frankfort and Stephanie Soma converted the first two penalty kicks for Franklin, but Kate McCarter was stopped and Elyse Brightman hit a post. That set the stage for sophomore Laurel Ayvasian, who roofed the final penalty kick attempt for the win……..
Franklin advances to a first round game at third-seeded Sandwich tomorrow (5 p.m.). |
