Junior midfielder Nicole Stenquist scored the sole goal as Rivers edged Pingree, 1-0, yesterday in Easthampton and captured the NEPSAC Class B girls' championship for the second year in a row. "For the girls, winning back-to-back titles, was unbelievable," said Rivers coach Susanna Donahue. "It feels great."
Sophomore striker Adrienne Anderson assisted on the goal, her eighth of the year. It was a bit of role reversal for Anderson, the team's leading goal-scorer (15), and Stenquist, the team's assist leader. But Donahue says those numbers don't matter. "
They play very well together," she said. "My team is very unselfish. They look for the opportunity to get the ball to the open person that has the best chance to score."
